Alfredo Nets Top-15 In 100th Xfinity Series Start

NEWTON, Iowa – He had to work for it, but Anthony Alfredo secured a hard-fought top-15 finish in his 100th NASCAR Xfinity Series start on Saturday.

Alfredo started 19th but fought through tire blistering for much of the Hy-Vee Perks 250 at Iowa Speedway, the same issue that hampered numerous teams at the seven-eighths-mile oval that was recently repaved in the corners.

He fell back as far as 30th, losing a lap to the leaders midway through the race, but received the free pass during the seventh caution of the race on lap 218 after Austin Hill slammed the turn-four wall.

From there, Alfredo was able to regain track position and work his way forward. He restarted 18th and methodically pushed forward over the final 30 laps.

Surviving an overtime restart, Alfredo finished 15th with his Our Motorsports-prepared No. 5 Ferguson Chevrolet Camaro.

It marked his ninth top-15 finish in 15 Xfinity Series races this year, as well as moved him up one position in points to 14th with 11 races remaining in the regular season.

Alfredo is still in striking distance to challenge for a playoff berth, sitting just 54 points behind the cut line.

“After everything that happened in that race, I’ll gladly take a 15th-place finish,” noted Alfredo. “That was a wild race, with a lot of adversity for a lot of drivers, not just our team. To fight back the way we did just continues to show the never-give-up attitude that these Our Motorsports guys bring to the racetrack week-in and week-out, and it’s what we need to do as we continue to build up this race team.

“To have a solid finish on Father’s Day weekend, in honor of my dad [Rob] … who’s been my hero and mentor for my entire career, means a great deal,” he added. “When I first started racing, I don’t know if I could have ever imagined making 100 starts in the Xfinity Series, but it’s been a privilege to be here and hopefully this is just the start of many more.”

Alfredo and the Xfinity Series field head next to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., for the SciAps 200 at the 1.058-mile oval.
