Mechanical Failure Stifles Alfredo On Chicago Stree

CHICAGO – Anthony Alfredo showed promise in Saturday’s The Loop 110 at the Chicago Street Course, but languished through a mechanical failure in the final laps.

Alfredo, the 25-year-old from Ridgefield, Conn., started 18th in the No. 5 DUDE Wipes Chevrolet Camaro for Our Motorsports. Though he didn’t grab any stage points, Alfredo was among the top 15 for a quarter of the 50-lap event and was as high as 11th at one point.

However, Alfredo broke a track bar mount during the final stage at the 2.2-mile circuit in the streets of downtown Chicago, Ill., forcing him to “simply survive” in the closing laps.

“Street racing is a blast and it’s such a pleasure to race in an atmosphere like the city of Chicago has given us the past two years,” said Alfredo. “The Our Motorsports Chevrolet was en route to a top-10 finish Saturday before we broke that track bar mount, and I really believe we had the car to do it. It’s tough luck, but we continue to fight each week and punch above our weight in a stacked field.

“The goal remains the same – earning a playoff spot – and we’re not going to give up by any means.”

Alfredo owns five top-10 finishes this season and ranks 15th in the regular-season standings. He’s 85 points behind Sammy Smith, who currently holds the 12th and final playoff berth with eight races to go.

Alfredo will continue his quest to crack the Xfinity Series playoff field at Pennsylvania’s Pocono Raceway during the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at the 2.5-mile ‘Tricky Triangle’.
